Launch of the Ukrainian Museum Fund Registry
The Ukrainian government has approved a new initiative to launch an experimental project — the Ukrainian Museum Fund Registry. This digital system will consolidate information about all state museum items, ensuring their accounting, preservation, and protection. This document aims to make all processes more transparent and manageable.
“Each museum will have its own cabinet and free access to a unified interface. The digital registry will allow for monitoring, inventorying, and controlling the movement of museum treasures within Ukraine and abroad. It will provide access to data regarding museum collections and information on the search and recovery of stolen or lost artifacts. With the registry, we will be able to implement various other projects and tasks more efficiently, including evacuation efforts. This is a vital project for preserving our cultural heritage,” emphasized the Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine, Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.
The resolution is necessary to organize processes related to the collection, storage, protection, and processing of information about museum items and collections that belong to the state part of the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
The registry will facilitate monitoring, inventory control, and tracking the movement of museum treasures, as well as providing tools for accessing information regarding the recovery of stolen or lost artifacts. Additionally, the system will offer secure and convenient access to data about museum collections.
The registry will allow:
- to record each museum item in digital form;
- to track the movement of artifacts within Ukraine and abroad;
- to respond quickly in cases of disappearance or theft of cultural treasures;
- to create a database for the return of lost museum items;
- to generate analytics regarding the status of museum collections.
The experimental project will last for up to two years, during which technical solutions will be tested, the interaction of the registry with other electronic systems will be organized, and the user base will be determined.
The establishment of the registry represents a significant step toward preserving the Museum Fund of Ukraine and enhancing the role of museums in shaping contemporary Ukrainian culture.
