Road Safety for Kids: Awareness Month
In educational institutions in Odesa, the Road Safety Awareness Month «Attention! Children on the Road!» is currently taking place.
The primary goal of this initiative is to prevent road traffic injuries among children, instill respect for road behavior rules, engage youth in learning the Traffic Rules, ensure safe behavior on city streets and in transport, and cultivate a conscious attitude towards personal and others' safety.
In schools of the Peresyp district, class hours titled «Follow the Rules – Save Lives» and «Know Road Signs – Avoid Trouble» were held, where students discussed essential road behavior guidelines, watched educational videos, and participated in quizzes.
Open exhibitions of children's drawings and creative works titled «Safe Country!», «Attention! Children on the Road!», «Traffic Rules Alphabet», and «We Are Pedestrians!» were also organized.
Class teachers held discussions with students on «My Safe Journey for Knowledge» and assisted children in developing individual safe route plans to and from school.
A highlight for the students was the introduction to a real police vehicle. Children, together with officers, reviewed pedestrian rules and reinforced their knowledge of traffic regulations through engaging activities such as «I Am the Traffic Controller» and «Road Safety».
Inspectors explained the importance of using reflective elements in low light, emphasized crossing rules, and proper use of public transport in an accessible and engaging manner.
For preschool children, thematic classes titled «Attention! Children on the Road», «Know Road Signs – Avoid Trouble», «Traffic Rules Alphabet», «I Am a Little Pedestrian», «My Behavior on Public Transport», «Crossing Intersection Rules», and «I Am Going to Kindergarten» were conducted. Preschoolers were introduced to the basic rules of pedestrian behavior and learned about road signs and their meanings.
