First Successful Multi-Organ Donation in Odesa
For the first time in the history of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, a multi-organ donation and transplantation operation has been performed. This was reported by Oleg Kiper, the head of the OVA.
This complex procedure saved the lives of three patients who had long awaited their chance.
The donor was a patient suffering from a severe ischemic stroke. When the medical team confirmed brain death, the family made a brave decision — to consent to the transplantation.
As a result, three individuals received a new lease on life:
- A 49-year-old former military man — received a kidney;
- A 31-year-old displaced resident of Kherson region — received a kidney;
- A 24-year-old patient — received a heart.
An incredible job was carried out by the medical team of the transplantation and dialysis department of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital along with colleagues from the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center. Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this noble mission.
