Health Initiatives in Odessa: Free Preventive Campaigns
To improve the effectiveness of prevention, early detection, and timely treatment of diseases, the Odessa City Council's Health Department has introduced free preventive campaigns at medical facilities in Odessa as part of the City Target Program «Health» for 2024-2026.
In 2024, the Health Department organized 29 health days aimed at both adults and children.
The goal of these initiatives is to raise awareness among residents about health risk factors and disease prevention, as well as to encourage early detection for timely treatment and motivate a healthy lifestyle.
During the campaigns, doctors conducted free medical examinations, including ophthalmological, dental, dermatological, otolaryngological, gynecological, and urological checks, as well as measuring blood pressure, glucose levels, body mass index, and conducting laboratory tests.
This year, a total of 40,911 individuals underwent preventive screenings in Odessa's medical facilities, including 37,384 adults and 3,527 children. Cancer screenings included 13,378 individuals, of whom 3,903 were men and 9,475 were women.
All patients with identified health issues were referred to specialists. Timely diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment.
This year, medical institutions also actively participated in raising awareness about mental health. As part of the national mental health program «How Are You?» initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska, a Mental Health Awareness Month was held, during which around 1,000 residents received psychological support.
