Protecting Kuyalnik National Park
New Regulations for Drivers in National Park Protection
The Kuyalnik National Park has started imposing fines on drivers who enter protected areas. This is not just about formal restrictions, as Law No. 4188-IX prohibits any vehicles except for official ones from entering conservation territories.
The national park covers about 10,800 hectares, but the protected zone is only around 3,500 hectares. This zone mainly consists of remote and inaccessible areas. Strict nature protection regulations apply only in this zone, while other areas utilized by communities or health resorts have limitations but not a complete ban on entry.
Which vehicles are banned from protected lands?
- Entry of cars, ATVs, motorcycles, and pickups is prohibited wherever the law disallows it.
- Holding competitions and mass events involving access to conservation areas is prohibited.
- Even test drives are monitored, as in the case where a car dealership had to change locations after discussions with the national park administration.
Why is this important?
Such entries compact the soil, destroy vegetation, and disturb wildlife. Lizards and snakes, including species from the Red Book of Ukraine, die under the wheels of vehicles on the slopes of the estuary.
What are the fines?
- 153–408 UAH — for individuals;
- 255–510 UAH — for officials;
Additionally, compensation for environmental damage is stipulated. For every 100 meters of illegal passage:
- motorcycle — 4020.80 UAH;
- car — 6428.80 UAH;
- truck — 8848.00 UAH.
Who regulates this?
Violations are tracked by the national park's state protection service, the environmental inspection, and the police. Event organizers are monitored on social media initially to negotiate. However, repeat violations result in fines and even vehicle confiscation.
Kuyalnik is not a racetrack
The Kuyalnik National Park is a natural area that requires protection. If destruction is not halted now, the region will lose its unique ecosystems and healing properties of the estuary. Everyone who wants Kuyalnik to remain vibrant must start with responsibility.
