Forest Restoration: New Nurseries in Odesa and Mykolaiv Regions
New nurseries have been established in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions to support the restoration of forest cover in the liberated areas of the Kherson region. The total area of these nurseries is 45 hectares, with each forestry unit having its own plot ranging from 0.3 to 3 hectares.
According to the Southern Forestry Office of the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine», these areas were barren just a year ago, and now seedlings are being cultivated, planted in spring 2025 and autumn 2024.
“A year ago, this place was overrun by weeds. Thanks to the company’s investments, our nurseries have been revitalized – we acquired equipment for soil cultivation, irrigation, and shading nets to protect the seedlings from the hot southern sun. We have also formed new personnel,” the office stated.
By spring 2026, it is planned to produce 25 million seedlings, which will allow for the afforestation of 4-5 thousand hectares.
A significant portion of the planting material will be directed towards the restoration of forests in the liberated territories that will join the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine» this year.
