DTEK Begins Importing US LNG via Lithuania

The energy holding DTEK has imported a shipment of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) via a terminal in Lithuania. According to Bloomberg, the D.Trading division delivered its first cargo of approximately 100 million cubic meters of gas from the Plaquemines plant of Venture Global Inc. in Louisiana to the Klaipeda LNG terminal in Lithuania.
This marked the first instance of a Ukrainian trader being responsible for chartering a tanker, which loaded LNG aboard the Gaslog Houston on October 20.
In light of Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure that destroyed more than half of its domestic gas production, Ukraine seeks to diversify its energy supplies. Bloomberg noted that D.Trading, which has previously supplied American LNG through Greece, now has access to the Lithuanian terminal, providing new options for gas delivery via the northern corridor connecting Ukraine with Poland and the Baltic states.
DTEK's CEO, Maxym Timchenko, stated, "We are working with European and American partners to develop cost-effective routes to increase gas supplies to Ukraine and neighboring countries. It is estimated that Ukraine will need about 4 billion cubic meters of gas imports this winter following the Russian attacks."
As previously reported, at the end of December 2024, DTEK received its first batch of 100 million cubic meters of LNG from the United States after the LNG vessel docked in Greece. DTEK manages the energy assets of SCM, owned by Rinat Akhmetov.
