Celebrating the Ground Forces Day in Ukraine

On December 12, Ukraine celebrates Ground Forces Day.

This day, established by the decree of the President of Ukraine on October 18, 1997, recognizes the significance of the Ground Forces as the main component of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in ensuring national security.

Today, we honor mechanized, armored, and missile troops, artillery, army aviation, air defense units, and special forces.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasized that these military formations stand at the forefront of defense against aggression.

“The Ground Forces are a powerful force that unites various units, new technologies, and modern combat methods. Today, this is an army that continues to fight for Ukraine,” Syrskyi stated on social media.

At the onset of the full-scale war, it was the ground units that became the first line of defense against the enemy.

“The Ukrainian infantry protected the capital, repelled enemy attacks, liberated territories, and destroyed mercenaries. The Ground Forces are the backbone of our defense,” Syrskyi added.

He also noted that the Ground Forces are undergoing significant transformations directly on the battlefield.

“The use of drones, advanced weapon systems, and mobile groups is the new reality for our troops. I am proud to be part of this strength,” Syrskyi emphasized.

Today, we honor the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence. Eternal glory to the heroes!

“I thank all servicemen for their dedication and courage in defending our country,” Syrskyi remarked.

Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that this holiday is for those who bravely repel enemy assaults on all fronts.

“For Ukraine! For its freedom!” Under this slogan, our troops fight daily, inflicting significant losses on the enemy, Shmyhal underscored.

He expressed gratitude to all defenders in the Ground Forces for their diligent service and bravery. “Eternal memory to those who fell in battle,” the minister added.

“Glory to the Ground Forces! Glory to Ukraine!” Shmyhal concluded.
