Current Status of Border Crossings in Odesa Region
The border crossings along the Odesa-Reni road in the Odesa region are operational; however, traffic towards Odesa and the Moldovan border is complicated due to damage to the bridge near the village of Mayaki.
This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, during a news broadcast.
«The border crossings are functioning and can process citizens. However, movement towards Odesa is restricted due to the bridge damage in the Mayaki area,» said Demchenko.
He specified that this concerns the border crossings at «Palanka,» «Starokozache,» «Reni,» and «Orlivka.» They can handle the documentation for citizens and vehicles.
The spokesperson explained that due to enemy actions, access deeper into Ukraine for those entering from Moldova is complicated.
«We are conducting informational work and have also engaged our Moldovan colleagues to clarify the situation to people. Due to enemy actions and the bridge damage near the village of Mayaki, further travel through these border crossings deep into Ukraine is difficult, so we recommend choosing alternative routes,» he added.
Demchenko clarified that traffic towards the border is also restricted due to bridge damage. Law enforcement agencies are conducting informational work among citizens.
«Meanwhile, if there were queues on both sides of the road near the bridge last night, by morning people are understanding the complexity of the situation, knowing it won't resolve quickly..., so there is no accumulation of vehicles near this spot,» noted the spokesperson.
Earlier, the Infrastructure Recovery and Development Service in Odesa region reported on Facebook that traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway in the village of Mayaki was temporarily closed on the morning of December 19.
«The temporary closure of traffic on the M-15 Odesa - Reni section (towards Bucharest) through the territory of Mayaki. We ask drivers to refrain from traveling in this direction if possible,» the agency stated.
In the Odesa region, due to the Russian airstrike, access to certain border crossings on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border has been restricted.
