Italian Parliamentarians Visit Odesa
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with a delegation of Italian parliamentarians led by the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Giorgio Mulè, who heads the inter-parliamentary cooperation group between Italy and Ukraine. The Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, was also present at the meeting.
During the discussions, it was highlighted that Italy is patronizing the restoration of Odesa. The parliamentarians came to personally explore the city and its landmarks, assess the extent of the damages, and identify specific restoration needs.
Additionally, the parties discussed promising areas for attracting investments, particularly in culture. The Italians believe that history should never be erased, no matter its complexity.
«History evolves, and we must grow with it, embracing its various aspects. Many operas in Italy were composed during fascism, and buildings were constructed then. But that does not warrant their destruction or avoidance. Art belongs to the world!» - expressed the shared sentiment of Mr. Mulè.
The Italian deputies expressed solidarity with the mayor and the citizens of Odesa regarding the preservation of heritage, which has contributed to Odesa's designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.
