Encountering Snakes in Odessa: Essential Information

Recently, there have been increasing encounters with snakes in the city, on beaches, and by lagoons. Igor Bilyakov, the director of the Odessa Zoo, emphasizes that there are no venomous snakes in Odessa.

According to him, there are four species of snakes in the area: the common and water snakes, as well as the Sarmatian and yellow-bellied racers. However, Igor Bilyakov insists that there is no need to fear these creatures.

He shared that he was bitten by a yellow-bellied racer, but it did not result in any harm. Bilyakov urged the public not to be afraid of or harm the snakes.

“Just leave them alone; they won’t do you any harm,” he stated. If anyone spots a snake in their car or home, they can call Igor Bilyakov at 068 04 04 539. He promises to assist.
